Voter Issues Received and My Response
Under grounding
We need 100% sign off to have a block party; should be a 100% sign off to underground a block as well. I like the way it looks yet no one wants to be mandated to cough up $60-80k as an add on to your existing expenses. Imagine you are a young couple, scraped together the money to buy a place in MB, barely 2 nickels to rub together afterwards and the city hits you with the under grounding. Or an older adult on a fixed income.
Manhattan Village
Manhattan Village needs to be a showcase. We need to do something or we will lose a valuable tax base.
Concrete Steps along the strand
These steps and walls are crumbling and uneven. Not safe. Need to fix.
Sewers and Storm Drains
These are being repaired in phases over the next couple of years. Work has already started.
Skateboard Park
I believe we have space for a skate-park in an area behind Big Marine ballpark. Perfect space for a skate-park. No neighbors.
Keep a Small Town Feel
We need to adhere to strict guidelines regarding size of business in our dense business corridors. And we need to allow residents the alternative to renovate vs rebuild.
Parking Tickets
No more parking meters than what is already in place. Additional parking meters are just another tax on our citizens.
Older Adult Facility
Continue to renovate Joslyn Center and Manhattan Heights into first class centers for older adults.
Traffic Congestion
The city is working on this. Roundabouts may be an option to help with flow; encourage public transportation using dial-a-ride and taxi coupons; bike path along Veterans Parkway.
City Pensions and Workmans Comp
The state has put rules in place that we must comply re livable wage ordinance. This is a process and will be handled on a going forward basis. It will not happen overnight. We are in better shape than most cities in CA
Bicycle Master Plan
Mark recently completed a questionnaire from the South Bay Bicycle Coalition regarding the Bicycle Master Plan. His responses are contained in this linked document.
